Haylee is a Newcastle based multidisciplinary artist and mother of four. Her practice is informed by personal life experience, things she sees around her, and issues she is confronted with in the media. Loss is a theme which runs a thread throughout her work; loss of innocence, faith, autonomy; ageing, death and bereavement.
Haylee's current work explores the notion of remembrance, how we grieve, the ways we memorialise those lost, and the role memorials play in healing. She has been particularly interested in documenting roadside memorials, engaging with the space around, the items left, and how they evolve or decay over time. Her aesthetic is inspired by the tone and texture of nature, combining painting, collage, textile, print making, installation and photography.
